Performance about gender violence in cooperation with the artist María María Acha. Cáceres, April 2008.
The artist María María Acha invited me to participate in her Project “The Sleeping Beauties”, giving me 11 stickers to write on them the name and circumstances of some of the women killed by their couples or ex-couples in Spain during 2007.
She invited us to develop a work with some of these stickers as homage to these women.
I had 11 stickers, so I invited 11 people (men and women) to participate in my performance, which was carried out at the entrance of the Contemporary Art Fair Foro Sur, in Cáceres.
These people lay on the ground as if dead, as if they had fallen after having been beaten, and I drew their silhouettes with a chalk in the way it is done in police films. Some people joined in and also drew silhouettes.
Afterwards, we would stick on their bodies one of the stickers corresponding to one of the women, one of The Sleeping Beauties.
Finally, after getting up one by one, we stuck on the ground, inside the silhouette, the sticker that we took off from their bodies.
