‘Complexus’, action for Patio. Encuentro de artes vivas, held at the Museo de Málaga in December 2024.
When Isa Sanz invited me to this cycle she asked me: ‘What urges you’, and almost without thinking I answered: ‘Love’.
We live in turbulent times, in which there is a lot of pain, fear and hopelessness, so I feel the need to counteract it in some way, and perhaps the most immediate and simple (though not easy) way is through the act – so symbolic – of embracing.
I hand out a series of cards inviting people to participate in the action by choosing one of the 13 different types of hugs offered. After each hug I perform a simple action related to the idea of that particular hug.
We experienced very funny, exciting, intimate and even uncomfortable moments, in which I felt a wonderful connection with each of the people who participated, but I think the important thing was to be able to forget for a while about the suffering that plagues the world.
