“Spicy Fountain” is the title of the site-specific action created with Ana Matey for the MaMa Festival in Madremanya (Girona), on September 13, 2025, organized by Gresol Art.
We collected words inspired by the word “hand,” the symbol of Madremanya, a name that means “cunning hand,” from people at the festival and from the town. As we read these words and placed them on the church wall, we filled different bottles and containers with water in various and absurd ways.
The piece is inspired by the symbol of the hand, the spicy fountain from which we collected and transported the water we used in the action, and the fact that Can Ober, Denys Blacker’s residence and home, where we stayed during the previous days, was originally a bottling plant for the water from this fountain, which only lasted 1,001 bottlings due to its high iron content and rapid oxidation.
