NIYAMA SAUCHA IN SOUTH AMERICA

Actions and collaborations undertaken during my trip through South America between November and December 2025.

In Uruguay, I participated in Cosmicalle, a public space event in Montevideo as part of the Cósmica festival organized by Tribu Montevideo, which featured local and international artists and performers. There, I presented an open version of my Niyama Saucha project, in which I practice yoga wrapped in cleaning materials, inviting anyone who wanted to join me.

During the residency at “Poetics of time” at Kykyō Natural Reserve, I continued exploring the relationship between art and yoga, this time in a natural setting. There, I created a clay base with the imprint of the Sirsasana pose (headstand), collaborated on Gabi Alonso’s piece by embroidering the text “seeing the world at ground level and upside down,” and performed Sirsasana poses throughout the reserve. I had the pleasure of sharing a residency with Gabi Alonso (AR), Cecilia Stelini, Mateus Stelini, and Maria Nascimiento (BR), Llorch Talavera (ES), and Hélène Lefebvre (CA). Production and curator were Nico Spinosa, Óscar, and Gabi Hernández.

At the end of the residency, we presented our work in Minas, at an event in the Plaza de la Libertad. There, I performed an action that, in a way, united all the previous actions, alluding to the awkwardness of walking through the countryside without proper footwear; so I covered my feet with colorful cleaning cloths, performed sirsasanas (headstands) around the square, and closed the session with a meditation…

During my time in Argentina, I participated in the Co.De (Decolonial Constellations) meeting, organized by Peras de Olmo – Ars Continua at cheLA space in Buenos Aires. It was a privilege to share time and space for action and interaction with Air Nopawan Sirivejkul (TH), Aidana Rico Chávez (VE-AR), Angelo Pedari (CA), Andrea Cárdenas (AR), Chomphunut Phuttha (TH), Daniel Acosta (AR), Gabriela Muollo (AR), Guadalupe Neves (AR), Graciela Ovejero (AR), Javier Sobrino (AR), Johanna Householder (CA), Mongkol Plienbangchang (TH), Nelda Ramos (AR), Walter Brovia (AR), Lucas Ávila (AR), Pablo Paniagua (AR), and Ramiro Larraín (AR).

In Santiago, Chile, I enjoyed a brief meeting with Pamela and Marcelo (coordinator of the Open Performance Lab in Valparaíso), where we shared creative processes and performed in the public space. This was all thanks to León Sky and the Ailanto Community Cultural Space, which hosted us for a few days.
