Mucama Ama.
Performance for the Festival 12Abierto de Acción, at the MURAM Cartagena (Murcia), within the program of the Miradas de Mujeres Festival. March, 2014.
After several months of feeling like a “mucama” (maid, servant) in my private life, I felt the need to make a new version of the Mucama performance created in September 2015. In this case, there was no time limit and the performance was carried out in the street. I make up a bed with sheets and a pillow and invite members of the public to take a turn in the bed sleeping, resting, and relaxing. They can stay in the bed for as long as they wish. While they are in the bed, I caress them, nurse them, and care for them. Some ask me to tell them a story or hold her/his hand. Some even ask me to cook soup for them.
After three hours, I end the performance by touching each of the sheets, and recalling through the colour and shape of the sheets, all of the people who have slept there. I get under the sheets and wrap myself in them, undoing the bed, until all of the sheets fall on the ground.
