Performance for the 3rd and last meeting of ARTóN. MATSU, Madrid, May 2014.
The idea or theme of this performance art meeting at Matsu was “frontier”, and the material I was asked to perform with was a roll of paper. Mindful of the theme and the material, what came to mind was the idea of distance, remoteness and borders between countries. I remembered that in past times, the only way we could contract people beyond “our borders” was through the mail–sending letters, or sending (and receiving) packages.
The performance consisted of two parts. First, I approached members of the audience and wrapped a part of their body with the paper, and asked them who they wanted to send that part of their body to. I wrote on each of these “body packages” the name of the receiver and the destination. In the second part of the performance, I wrapped the parts of my body where the heart and soul are (the torso and head) and sent myself to my father where he is now (in heaven, in the cosmos, or in the stars).
