Punt WG Space of Art, Amsterdam (Holland). June, 2010.
The idea for this performance came to me after living a few days in Amsterdam and noticing two things in particular that struck me: most people were noticeably taller than I am; and no one hugged me (it is not common for the Dutch to make displays of affection or touch each other in greeting).
I approach a person and hug him/her. I mark my height on his/her body with a piece of tape. I use a length of cord to measure from that point to the top of his/her head (to see how much taller he/she is than me). I repeat this with others in the audience and I add those measurements to the cord.
Finally, I attach the cord to the wall and spin so that the cord wraps me up, hugging me.
